List of desirable qualities in a good nurse


  • 1. Communication Skills

    The ability to communicate is a vital part of the nursing job. Nurses speak to people of varying educational, cultural and social backgrounds. So must do in a caring and professional manner, especially when communicating with their family.

  • 2. Sympathy and Empathy

    A good nurse is empathetic. Empathetic means the willingness to share in the feelings of others. It does not mean that we agree with the patient or completely understand what they are going through.

  • 3. Concentration

    A nurse's duties should be carried out responsibly and with great care. Her actions directly affect the quality of life of the patient.

  • 4. Problem Solving Skills

    A good nurse can think and address problems as or before they arise. With sick patients, emergencies, nurses always need to be on hand to solve a tricky situation. Good problem solving skills is a top quality of a great nurse.

  • 5. Respect

    Good nurses respect people and rules. They respect the hospital staff and each other, understanding that the patient comes first. And nurses who respect others are highly respected in return.

  • 6. Interpersonal Skills

    A great nurse has excellent interpersonal skills and works well in a variety of situations with different people. They work well with other nurses, doctors, and other members of the staff.

  • 7. Good team player

    Teamwork is a requirement in nursing, otherwise nothing would ever get done. Of course that isn't the case for any nurse, especially nurses who work busy shifts in a hectic hospital setting.
